PixelLab 2.1.9 is a photo editing app from App Holdings for adding text, stickers, shapes and effects to images. It is built for Android, so to download PixelLab for a Windows PC you install it inside an Android emulator rather than as a regular Windows program.
PixelLab is a tool for making graphics with text rather than for retouching photos. You start from a picture, a colour or a gradient background, then add lines of text and style them: dozens of fonts, outlines, shadows, 3D text, gradients, textures and bending along a curve. Stickers, emojis and shapes can be layered on top, and each element can be moved, rotated and resized with your fingers or, on a PC, with the mouse. Among its other tools are erasing a background, applying perspective, adding frames and exporting the result in the size you need. The app is popular for YouTube thumbnails, social media posts, simple posters, quotes on pictures, invitations and memes. Its strength is speed: a nice-looking title on a photo takes a couple of minutes without learning a desktop design program. The weakness is precision, since it lacks the layer controls and colour management of professional editors.
You need a Windows PC that can run an Android emulator, with virtualisation enabled in the BIOS for good speed. The app itself is light, about 27.75 MB according to catalogue data.
Install PixelLab only from Google Play inside the emulator. Websites offering a separate PixelLab.exe for Windows or unlocked versions often bundle adware; there is no official Windows edition. Emulators themselves should also come from their developers' sites.
Start from a high-resolution photo, because text looks sharp only when the background is sharp too. Keep one or two fonts per design, leave some empty space around the main title and check the image at the size where it will actually be seen, for example as a small thumbnail in a list of videos.
Yes. PixelLab is free with ads, and an in-app purchase removes the advertising.
Native Windows options on our site include Microsoft Designer for template-based graphics, Photoscape for photo editing with text, GIMP for advanced work and Paint for quick edits. PicWish specialises in background removal.
